new orleans...so much to say. the trip was beautiful. weather perfect, not like june 2007 in the blazing heat, this time there was a cool breeze in the air, and the trees felt perfectly shading.
i got to stay in a shotgun house uptown, you could feel the history inside. this house didn't look amazing from the outside, but walking in was another world. we brought students from portland oregon and new orleans together, to present in a conference, attend, and as it so happened to stay out all night together...warranting their early departure back to the pacific northwest. bummer. but their presentation was fantastic.
going back to new orleans gave me the chance to rest my brain for a little while, to ride scooters, see live music every night, drink too much, connect with new friends, and reconnect with old. something about that city is magical and magnetic.
more than anything, traveling around the country, to new york then new orleans, made me remember myself. that i am light and fun and can experience new things. that life is not so heavy. i am not stuck here if i don't want to be. megan told me 'face it, you're bicoastal.'
sacramento was not as fun in the same way...working 6am - 1am each day, bombarded with questions, observing things i would change next time if i were to have more input...but nonetheless it was a great conference.
there were 120 youth from around california, focusing on creating healthier cities. again, i connected with new friends, reconnected with old ones. i'm still thinking about my next steps...who i want to work for, what i should be doing with myself...it's unclear right now but i know that change continues to be on the horizon. we shall see what next steps will be...
next post might be more exciting...gotta get the creative juices flowing...and some rest.
