wake

i run on puget sound,
almost 29

the old pacific rail line passes to my right,
at left, the wavy water
in distant view, a snow-capped mt. rainier
the wind moves through me.

i'm running from a storm.
while at my back, sleet falls on the docks of seattle,
in front the sky is clear

a man falls from the sky!
he's holding a kite, which he neatly folds up, tucks into his backpack,
and walks towards the cold city streets in flip-flops.

running...
along the water, now back towards the storm
which creeps away in the other direction
today is a special day, and i will not get rained on.

i take a detour into the sculpture park
surrounded by calder and move-able chairs,
the trains keep underneath

run
into richard serra's 'wake'
undulating steel walls
surfaces towering like an urban forest
this magical moment brings me to tears
